WHAT WE DID
CHALLENGE
If you ask someone what comes to mind when they think about Washington, DC, they’d probably say something about politics, national monuments and a 5th grade field trip. That’s because, to most people, DC is still the home of bureaucracy (and maybe the Smithsonian Museum). But, underneath the white marble exterior is a rich and vibrant city. This is the face of DC that Destination DC set out to showcase with their tourism campaign.
APPROACH
In order to flip the narrative on DC as a destination, we dug deep to uncover real vibrant stories of people who live there. We wanted to find passionate and engaging characters, but also needed to highlight key areas of tourism within the city. The Real DC campaign takes viewers on a journey into the beauty of Rock Creek Park and the Anacostia River, the musical roots of U Street, a neighbourhood full of spirited distillers and a thriving Ethiopian community.
